I still remember the first time I tried the Peanut Butter-Oreo combo–it was after seeing the Parent Trap for the first time. That iconic flavor combo has stayed with me ever since!

While I already have a peanut butter protein ice cream recipe and it’s easy enough to add Oreos to it, I decided I wanted to tweak the recipe slightly and create a version specific to Peanut Butter-Oreo with an even stronger Peanut Butter flair while still being filled with protein and as low-calorie as I can make it.

To make my Oreo Peanut Butter Protein Ice Cream, you need the following:

Cottage Cheese – I use 2% cottage cheese as the stabilizer in my Ninja Creami recipes. Cottage cheese reduces iciness, making this recipe perfectly creamy without high-fat ingredients like cream.

You can also use fat-free or full-fat–whichever cottage cheese meets your needs.

Whey Protein IsolateLegion Whey+ is my favorite due to its more natural taste and clean ingredients.

If you wish to use a protein powder that is not 100% whey isolate, you may need to use less than this recipe calls for or your texture could be chalky.

Powdered Peanut Butter such as Pb2 or PbFit. This gives the peanut butter flavor without all of the fat in regular peanut butter. It also boosts the protein.

Zero-Calorie Brown Sugar Substitute – Alternatively, you can use regular brown sugar or any other sugar substitute you prefer. The caramel flavors of brown sugar complement the peanut butter flavor well.

4. Re-Spin or Mix-In, Add Oreos
Once the first spin completes, uninstall the pint container and remove the outer bowl lid to check on the ice cream texture. From here, you have a few options:

If it is not yet creamy, put the blade lid back on, reinstall the pint, and spin again–this time with the “re-spin” function.

If it is close to your preferred final texture, then you can do another spin with the “Mix-In” cycle. Dig out a well in the center of the ice cream and place 2-3 Oreos in it. Reinstall the pint container as directed and press Mix In.

💥For the thickest & creamiest results, I recommend skim milk (dairy) or coconut milk (the low-calorie beverage, not the full-fat canned milk–though you can use that if you’d like!).

💥Nut milks, such as almond, cashew, macadamia, etc. will work to make a creamy. However, the texture will be thinner than the other milks I have recommended.

Equipment

Ingredients

Peanut Butter Protein Ice Cream Base

  • 100 grams cottage cheese 1/2 cup
  • 27 grams vanilla whey isolate protein powder 1 scoop
  • 32 grams powdered peanut butter, such as PbFit 1/4 cup
  • 24 grams zero calorie brown sugar substitute, such as swerve 2 tablespoons
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
  • 1 cup low calorie coconut milk beverage unsweetened

Mix Ins

  • 2-3 chocolate sandwich cookies such as Oreos

Instructions

  • Combine all of the peanut butter ice cream base ingredients into a Ninja Creami pint container (ie: everything except the Oreos). Use an immersion blender to mix until smooth.
  • Cover the pint container and place in the freezer for at least 24 hours. Make sure to freeze the pint on a flat and level surface.
  • When ready to eat, remove the pint container from the freezer. Install the pint container into your Ninja Creami machine per the manufacturer's instructions. Do the first spin on the Lite Ice Cream setting.
  • When the spin completes, check on the texture of your ice cream to see how much more spinning it needs. If it is close to finished, you can create a well in the middle of the pint and add 2-3 oreos. Re-Install the pint in the machine and press the "mix in" cycle button. Alternatively, you may spin on the "re-spin" cycle to further improve the creaminess, then crush the oreos by hand and stir them into your ice cream.
