Equipment Needed

To make healthy Ninja Creami ice cream recipes, you need to own a Ninja Creami ice cream maker.
Unfortunately, these recipes can’t really be made in any other appliance. The technology the Ninja Creami uses to make ice cream is mechanically different from almost anything else on the market.
You can use the original Ninja Creami 7-in-1, the Breeze, the 5-in-1, or the Deluxe 11-in-1. If you’re lucky enough to have your hands on the new swirl model, these should work with that, too!
You’ll also need Ninja Creami pint containers. An immersion blender or blender cup attachment for a regular blender also makes the job easier.
Staple Ingredients to Keep On Hand
•Basic protein powders–I recommend chocolate and vanilla.
•Low-calorie sweetener–I prefer allulose, but any 1:1 sugar sub will work
•Flavorings— cocoa powder, powdered peanut butter, flavor extracts (like vanilla extract, coconut, etc)
•Milk— I like skim milk and the coconut milk beverage (in a carton, not the can) the best, but you can also use nut milks.
•Stabilizer for Creaminess— A portion of cottage cheese or Greek yogurt makes your ice cream thicker and creamier. For a dairy-free option, you can use 1/8 – 1/4 teaspoon of guar gum. Blended fruit also makes a good stabilizer.
Note: You can use premade protein shakes if desired, but they are not as cost-effective, nor are they as thick & creamy as customized quantities of powders with milk.
How to Make Healthy Ice Cream
Specific instructions for each type of ice cream is included in the recipe post for each flavor.
Generally speaking, to make healthy ice cream recipes you will follow these steps:
- Blend ingredients – Combine all ingredients in the pint container and blend together with an immersion blender. Be sure not to go beyond the max fill line.
- Freeze – Place the Ninja Creami pint container on a flat, level surface in the freezer for 24 hours.
- Install the pint container as directed for your model. Spin on Lite Ice Cream.
- Check the ice cream texture once the first spin completes. If desired, do a re-spin.
- Add mix-ins to your ice cream by stirring them in by hand or using the mix-in setting on the machine. Note the mix-in setting will pulverize your mix-ins, so I prefer to stir by hand.
