If you grew up on instant ramen packets, you probably remember that unmistakable salty-savory flavor that somehow made us excited to eat even a simple bowl of noodles. While those packets are convenient, they're also loaded with additives and vague "natural flavors."
My 8-year-old has recently become a huge ramen fan, and out of my natural motherly instinct to try to find a way to give him a healthy version with real, recognizable ingredients, this homemade ramen seasoning recipe was born!
While most ramen seasoning recipes use bouillon cubes or bouillon powder, the base of my recipe is instant bone broth powder.
Nutritionally, bone broth powder offers more benefits than bouillon. It naturally contains collagen and amino acids, like glycine and proline, which support gut health, joints, and overall protein intake. On the other hand, bouillon cubes and powders are typically high in sodium with little to no protein or micronutrient value.
This ramen seasoning recipe has made my life so much easier as a quick and easy lunch recipe for my kids! For the noodles, I love the Lotus Foods millet & brown rice ramen noodles that you can buy in bulk at Costco. Key Ingredients

Ramen seasoning is all about savory balance. Here are the main ingredients included in this homemade ramen seasoning recipe. For a complete list, be sure to check the recipe card:
Instant Bone Broth Powder – Instant bone broth powder is different from bouillon. While this is a relatively new food product, it’s fairly easy to find in most grocery stores in the broth section. It typically comes in a box with small packets meant to make 1 cup of bone broth at a time.
Even Aldi sells an instant bone broth powder now!
I use chicken in this recipe, but beef bone broth powder works just as well. I recommend buying both and making a jar of each!
Garlic Powder – Garlic powder is similar to granulated garlic. You can use either one in this recipe, but garlic powder is finer in texture, therefore it will dissolve more easily in the broth. Both of them deliver a bold flavor and savory aroma that are important to the ramen broth.
Onion Powder – Onion powder adds a touch of mild sweetness to the broth. For a bit of texture, you could also add dried minced onion to the mix if desired.
Ground Ginger – Ground ginger gives this broth a comforting warmth and gentle heat.
Cumin – While not necessarily a traditional ramen flavoring, dried cumin adds some earthiness that deepens the flavor of this mix.
Sea Salt – It’s important to note that instant bone broth powder does not usually contain as much salt as bouillon. For that reason, you will find that you may want to add some salt to your seasoning mix.
You can do this one of two ways–you can completely omit the salt and just salt each bowl to taste as you make it, or you can add a conservative amount of salt (as I have listed on the recipe card) to bridge the gap in saltiness while accounting for some of the sodium that’s in your broth powder.
You may still need to add a little more salt when you make a bowl, but not as much as you would otherwise, and it will depend on your taste preferences.
How to Make Ramen Seasoning & Broth

1. Combine Ingredients.
Measure all of the recipe ingredients into a mason jar. Whisk together until evenly distributed. Store with an airtight lid in a cool, dry place for 6-12 months.

2. Make Ramen.
To make ramen, boil your noodles according to package directions. When done, mix one tablespoon of seasoning mix with 1 cup of the hot ramen water in a bowl.
Whisk together, then add your boiled ramen noodles to the bowl. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Expert Ramen Seasoning Recipe Tips
Taste and adjust before storing.
Everyone's salt preference is different. If you want to see if you got it to your standards, do a taste test: mix 1 teaspoon of the finished seasoning mix with 1/3 cup of hot water. Stir/whisk to dissolve, then taste. If the salt flavor is underpowdered, try adding more, just a bit at a time, and taste again as needed.
Store in an airtight container.
Keep your seasoning in an airtight glass jar away from heat and moisture. Properly stored, it will stay fresh and flavorful for 6-12 months.
Don't limit it to ramen!
This seasoning is excellent stirred into bone broth, sprinkled over roasted vegetables, added to rice, or used as a base for quick soups.
Homemade Ramen Seasoning FAQs
I use a blend of garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, dried parsley, sea salt, black pepper, and dried ginger for a simple, easy flavoring mix that is easily thrown together from pantry staples.
This homemade ramen seasoning mix is made exactly for that situation! Made from a blend of instant bone broth powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, ginger, parsley, salt, and pepper, you can simply use 1 tablespoon of the prepared mix per 1 cup of hot water. Add boiled ramen noodles and your lunch is ready!
The first secret to a good ramen broth is the richness and thickness of bone broth! That is why I love using instant bone broth powder in this recipe; however, if you’re making your own broth, simmering soup bones for hours makes a broth that is just heavenly to use in your bowl of ramen.
My second secret is to make sure the flavors are balanced by using the right blend of spices: garlic, onion, cumin, sea salt, pepper, ginger, and dried parsley make a lovely ramen broth.
